The
Nissan Sentra is a single of those cars that worked just fine for my small family members and even had a few surprising niceties, but it will totally disappear from my memory within a week's time.
It didn't leave a lasting impression. Really, that's not totally true. It may leave the impression of being 1 of the least impressionable and most unnoticeable vehicles I've driven in a lengthy time. I really feel sort of depressed just thinking about it.
With its four-cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission, this automobile has the sensation of becoming sluggish upon initial acceleration.
If you try to coax it into going faster the CVT grumbles with a loud revving noise. I have yet to meet a CVT that I like. The rest of the ride high quality was just fine, but it was overshadowed by the CVT's annoyingness.
The Sentra starts at $15,420.
The base cost of my test vehicle, a Sentra SL, was $18,560, and with the addition of splash guards, floormats, the Premium Plus Package (such as a moonroof, illuminated vanity mirrors and heated seats) and leather seats, my check automobile came in at a grand total of $21,060.
That's a darn great value if I do say so myself.
EXTERIOR
Have you ever seen the musical "Chicago?" In it there's a song called "Mister Cellophane," which is about a man that never gets observed.
He sings: "Mister Cellophane/ Ought to have been my name!/ Mister Cellophane/ 'Cause you can look right through me/ Walk right by me/ And never know I'm there.
" This is a best description for how I felt driving my test vehicle for two weeks: invisible!
There's practically nothing seriously wrong with the Sentra.
Its styling has been revised for 2010, and it's a good-enough-looking automobile (I mean it doesn't have any grotesque defects). But there's practically nothing notable about it, either.
It's a sedan that any American could quietly drive to and from their job and in no way get noticed.
Simply because it's a sedan, the Sentra has a low step-in height. Opening doors and climbing in and out of the Sentra is easy sufficient for small ones. For older people, the seats are at the best height for sliding proper in without having having to climb or stoop.
Stops at the gas station were handful of throughout my check drive simply because the Sentra gets an EPA-estimated 26/34 mpg city/highway.
It has a 140-horsepower, 2.-liter inline-four-cylinder engine that uses normal gas.
SENSE AND Style
Family members Friendly (Not Truly, Reasonable, Excellent, Superb): Reasonable
Enjoyable-Factor (None, Some, Great Times, Groove-On): None
Inside
The Sentra SL's interior had a few pleasant surprises such as keyless entry, push-button begin and leather seats.
The leather seats are component of a $700 Leather Package and are worth it if you ever plan to have children in this automobile simply because they make cleanup so very much simpler.
My youngsters loved the rear armrest between their two booster seats that had two cupholders in it (one holds a 20-ounce bottle although the other fits a 32-ounce cup), and I appreciated the two adjustable cupholders in the front seats and extra storage room for my cell phone in the center console. An additional storage compartment located above the radio controls was a good space for overflow items like lip gloss. The huge glove box stashed my new iPad safely out of view; I'm still a small nervous about taking it out in public.
My children seemed to have plenty of legroom in the backseat, but take that for what it is. I'm only 5 feet 3 inches tall, so I keep the driver's seat pulled fairly far forward.
The cargo room in the five-seater is pretty big and usable.
There's plenty of room for all the stuff a loved ones requirements to haul, such as groceries, sports gear and a lot more. There's even a partition in the trunk that can be utilized to form two compartments, so your son's nasty cleats are separated from the roasted chicken that you picked after soccer practice.
The 60/40-split folding rear seats accommodate random trips to the house development store.
IT'S THE Small Things THAT COUNT
Storage Compartments (Puny, Reasonable, Ample, Galore): Fair
Cargo/Trunk Room (Puny, Reasonable, Sufficient, Galore): Sufficient
Security
Buckling up independently was simple for my little ladies simply because of solid seat belt receptors and adequate seat width to comfortably fit large boosters with out covering the buckles. However, for individuals parents who want to use the Latch method to install their child-basic safety seats, good luck. The two sets of Latch connectors are tightly buried in the seats, which renders them nearly useless.
And really, as a new parent, do you require one more challenge?
The Sentra has standard antilock brakes, traction control and stability handle.
It also has regular front- and side-impact airbags for the front row and side curtain airbags for each rows.
A common tire pressure monitoring program and vehicle immobilizer program are both great functions, too.
